'Il Gattopardo' at fifty

A National Library of Scotland film

A short documentary made at the time of a symposium on Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's novel 'Il Gattopardo' ('The Leopard').

Held at the National Library of Scotland in 2009, the event was a collaboration between NLS, the Italian Cultural Institute and Edinburgh University. It marked the 50th anniversary of the book's publication.

Gioacchino Lanza Tomasi, Lampedusa's adoptive son, took part, along with several renowned experts on the author. The original Lampedusa manuscript was on public display in the Library at the time of the symposium.

Luchino Visconti's famous 1963 film of the book starred Burt Lancaster and Claudia Cardinale.
