Training in conservation

The National Library of Scotland supports a number of conservation work placements each year. Applications for placements should be sent to the Preservation and Conservation Manager. See our Contact page for details.

The following organisations run conservation training courses:

  • The School of Conservation, Camberwell College of Arts, London
    One year full-time or two years part-time MA in Conservation and one year postgraduate diploma in Conservation.
  • The University of Northumbria Faculty of Arts and Design, Newcastle
    Two years post-graduate MA course on the Conservation of Fine Art.
  • West Dean College, Chichester, West Sussex
    One year graduate diploma and one year postgraduate diploma and one calendar year MA in Conservation Studies.
  • The Society of Archivists
    Certificate in Archive Conservation for conservators already in the Society.
