Introduction for translators and anthologists of translations
Bibliography of Scottish Literature in Translation
If you are contemplating translating a work or works by a particular author into your own language, you can use BOSLIT to check on whatever translations may already exist.
It may be, of course, that an existing translation is unsuitable for contemporary readers and that you may be able to work on a new one. Your national library or a good research library should possess a copy of any translation you may wish to consult.
Remember that BOSLIT records not only monograph translations but also items appearing in periodicals and anthologies in your language.
Editors interested in compiling anthologies of Scottish prose or poetry in a particular language can use BOSLIT as part of their research process. In this way it becomes possible to identify suitable existing translations and thus avoid the expense of commissioning new versions.
