Scottish Labour announces candidate

Announcing the candidature of Jack McConnell for the leadership of Labour in the Scottish Parliament, party General Secretary Lesley Quinn said:

'The number of valid nominations received were as follows:

'Jack McConnell received 33 nominations and is therefore the only valid candidate.

'Jack McConnell's name will now go forward to an affirmative ballot of the Scottish Executive of the Labour Party and the Labour MSPs. This meeting will take place in the next few days.'
