Bell Rock Lighthouse.
The worldwide influence of 19th century Scottish engineers is well represented in the extensive papers of John Rennie, and of the lighthouse-building firm of Robert Stevenson and Sons, and in papers of Thomas Telford relating mostly to his Scottish undertakings.
Papers of scientists include those of:
- John, Lord Boyd Orr
- J S and J B S Haldane
- Sir George Taylor
- Sir Robert Watson Watt.
We also hold the papers of two leading science journalists and writers on scientific subjects — Ronald W Clark, and Peter, Lord Ritchie-Calder.
Institutional archives of the sciences and the applied sciences in Scotland are particularly well represented by the records of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and of the Royal Scottish Society of Arts.
