The first lecture
Mike Watson, who was then Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, gave the first Donald Dewar Lecture on 15 August 2002.
The memorial lecture was created by the National Library of Scotland. It marked the late Donald Dewar's contribution to devolution and his long interest in books. Dewar was Scotland's First Minister from the re-opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999 until his death in 2000.
