'Boules from a dying village', by Tom Pow and Elizabeth Waugh. Foundry bronze. Pine box by Mark Zygadlo. 2010.
Tom Pow writes:
'I came across a grouping of fallen apples in a French village. Unpicked fruit seemed a fitting image for a dying village. But the lie of these apples also reminded me of the French game of boules, a quintessential village game. These two ideas came together, not in words, but in these bronze apples, which fit snuggly in the palm. With handling, the cold bronze soon warms.'
