'Zum Ewigen Eise', by Georg Wegener (Berlin, 1897). [NLS shelfmark: Wordie.721].
'Zum Ewigen eise Vover' is one of many foreign language books on polar expeditions which James Mann Wordie collected throughout his life.
Wordie was an avid collector, bringing together accounts of polar expeditions in their native languages with translations, scientific papers and even early polar fiction and children's books.
Each was marked with his distinctive book plate. The result is a rich collection, held at the National Library of Scotland, that spans more than 100 years of polar history.
We feature a selection of books from James Mann Wordie's collection in our treasures display 'Beyond Endurance' at the Library from 20 November to 18 January.
