Scotland's links to the world of superheroes is a close one.

In 1943 and 1944 and again in 1962, 'The Dandy' featured Britain's first superhero — the Amazing Mr X, who 'had an uncanny way of knowing everything'.

More recently Scottish creativity has been key in breathing continuing life into various superhero franchises from Marvel Comics.

Scots writers Grant Morrison and Mark Millar have been two of the writers behind the ageless success of X-Men and Spider-Man.

The teenage superhero Kick-Ass is only the latest comic book creation to fly from the page to the big screen
