Scottish Libraries' Transport Service

The purpose of Scottish Libraries' Transport Service (SLTS) is to reduce postal costs for libraries.

NLS has negotiated an agreement with the commercial carrier DX that allows for transportation of loans and consolidated mail between libraries at very advantageous rates. Similar agreements are in place with most of the other UK library regions.

Daily collections

Items to be transported can be collected on a daily basis for delivery the next working day to libraries on the UK mainland.

Levels of service

There are two levels of service, Standard and Gold Consigned. Consigned deliveries need proof of collection / delivery signatures.

SLTS is only suitable for libraries that have a reasonable amount of inter-library or inter-site traffic. Excluded areas for collection/delivery are:

  • Western Isles
  • Skye
  • Shetland
  • Orkney
  • Ireland
  • Isles of Scilly.

Non-business addresses are also excluded.

Email NLS Reference Services for more information, including charges.
