Copying Services
The Library offers a wide range of copying services, and is happy to supply copies of material from its collections. There may, however, be occasions when material cannot be copied – or cannot be copied in certain ways – due to copyright restrictions or the need to protect the collections from wear and tear.
Copies supplied by the Library must not be reproduced (e.g. in a publication, or by electronic means or broadcasting) without permission to reproduce the item first having been obtained from the Library in writing. More detailed information about the photocopying service for maps is given elsewhere.
A restricted level of self-service photocopying is available for the General Reading Room.
Additional charges
VAT is added, where applicable, at the current rate. Additional charges may be made for carriage and bank charges. Handling surcharges may be imposed where extra work is required to fulfil orders.
Processes
- Library copying
For conservation reasons, to reduce wear and tear, non self-service copying from any bound volumes by Library staff will be carried out on specially designed scanning equipment linked to a digital output device. This method of copying protects the material from damage. - Self-service copying
The Library reserves the right to refuse permission for the copying of fragile material, and in all cases to specify the process to be employed.
Delivery

Permission fees
Reprographic prices do not include reproduction permission fees or licence fees for copying copyright material for commercial purposes. Please see our pages on Permission to reproduce for more details.
Image manipulation
Any image manipulation or digital retouching will be charged on a time basis at the rate of £25 per hour.
