First award for new long poem

A prize of £1000 will be received by the winner of a major new poetry competition at an event in the National Library of Scotland on Thursday 17 April. The award for a new long poem will be announced and presented by the Deric Bolton Poetry Trust, founded by poet and chemist Deric Bolton, who died 10 years ago. A separate award will also be made to a publisher, towards the cost of paperback publication of the winning poem.

Five poets have been short-listed for the new award, from a large number of entrants, and each will read from his poem at the Library event. The five are: Ken Cockburn, Robert Alan Jamieson, Frank Kuppner, James McGonigal and John Murray.

Wine will be served during the evening, and the proceedings start at 7pm. To book a free ticket, please E-mail us at events@nls.uk, phone 0131-622 4807, or visit the Library shop in the George IV Bridge Building. See press release for more information.
