Launch of film archive site

A new website providing details of films which show Scotland's rich culture and heritage was launched at an event hosted at the Library this week.

'Archive Live' is an online catalogue produced by the Scottish Screen Archive to broaden access to the 1300 miles of film it has gathered since 1976. With material going back as far as 1896, the collection reflects social history in Scotland — 'the real Scotland', as curator Janet McBain puts it. 'Archive Live' — designed to provide information useful to students, scholars, programme-makers and the general public alike — was launched on 14 October by Frank McAveety MSP, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport.

The Library has a long and happy association with the Scottish Screen Archive, and several films from the archive's collection currently feature in the Library's summer exhibition, which runs until the end of the month.
