Funding for cataloguing of street literature collection
An award of £10,000 has been made to the National Library of Scotland to help with a year-long project to add details of a fine collection of Scottish chapbooks to our main catalogue. Chapbooks are small booklets which were part of the staple reading matter of the 'common people' from the 17th to the 19th centuries. This collection of Scottish chapbooks form part of the Library's Lauriston Castle Collection, a rich source of information on the history, literature and topography of Scotland. Funding from the British Library Full Disclosure initiative will help Library readers access the 3,200 items which make up the chapbooks collection. The catalogue records will also be included in the Scottish Chapbook Catalogue hosted on the website of Glasgow University Library.
