A series of resources unveiled at the National Library of Scotland this week brings together for the first time information about significant Scottish collections of material relating to Robert Burns.
'Discover Scotland' is the result of a collaborative project involving museums, galleries, libraries — including the NLS — and other organisations aimed at improving access to and care of Burns collections across the country. The Distributed National Burns Collection project has collated details of the 'National Burns Collection' — more than 40,000 objects associated with Scotland's most famous poet which are housed in around 40 historic venues, from Dumfries and Galloway to Fife. A guidebook, leaflet and teachers' pack have been produced, and on the National Burns Collection website visitors can and find out about the collections and even take virtual tours of some venues on the Burns trail.
Guests at the launch on 30 November, who included representatives of the project's partners and the Scottish Executive, enjoyed performances of Burns songs by a choir from Balgreen Primary School in Edinburgh.
