Visit from Burma's prime minister in exile

Burmese visitors at NLS

Two members of Burma's democratically elected shadow government paid an impromptu visit to the National Library of Scotland last week.

Prime minister in exile Dr Sein Win, of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB), was in Edinburgh to speak at the Scottish Parliament. Dr Win viewed material which will be included in the display at our Burmese event on 21 June (see above). He was also able to give us information about some of our Burmese manuscripts, including a prayer scroll. With Dr Win were Thaung Htun, the NCGUB's United Nations representative, and a representative of the City of Edinburgh Council.

Pictured are (from left): Murray Forgie (Edinburgh City Council), Dr Sein Win, Kevin Halliwell (NLS) and Thaung Htun.
