Contemporary photographs taken along routes once followed by an adventurous Victorian woman explorer have gone on show at the National Library of Scotland.

Over a 10-year period, Professor Kiyonori Kanasaka of Kyoto University travelled across continents that were visited in the late 1800s by Isabella Bird, one of the most famous travellers and authors of the 19th century.

'In the footsteps of Isabella Bird: Adventures in twin time travel' features images the professor took on his journeys. Sometimes he captured the same scene which Bird herself photographed, and on display are some of Bird's pictures alongside Kanasaka's modern-day view.

To find out more, including opening times, see our exhibition page. You can also read our press release online. 'In the footsteps of Isabella Bird' runs until 27 November.
