Extensive refurbishment to improve facilities for visitors is now under way at the National Library of Scotland.
Redevelopment work in our George IV Bridge Building will result in:
- an open-access visitor centre
- dedicated space for material from the John Murray Archive
Running alongside each other, these two major projects are due for completion by May 2007.
The visitor centre will be on the ground floor. Visitors will be able to browse catalogues and collections online and register for a reader's ticket. Items from our collections will be on display. A new shop and café will be created.
Also in progress are developments to the reading room areas and to facilities for people with disabilities.
A permanent exhibition space will be created for John Murray Archive material. We will have a multimedia space for interpretation of JMA, where cultural and educational events will also be held.
More detailed information will be online shortly.
