NLS co-sponsors Ullapool Book Festival
For a weekend in May the north-west Highland village of Ullapool will enjoy the company of award-winning writers and poets.
Bernard MacLaverty, A L Kennedy and Jackie Kay are three of the authors taking part in the fifth Ullapool Book Festival. From 8-10 May the village will celebrate Gaelic, English and Scots literature, reflecting the cultural heritage of the north-west Highlands. One of the sponsors this year is the National Library of Scotland.
Among other writers appearing at Ullapool will be:
- Donny O'Rourke, the festival's honorary president
- Aonghas Macneacail and Gerda Stevenson
- Angus Peter Campbell
- Margaret Bennett
- Andro Linklater
- Alice Thompson.
The 2009 festival supports Homecoming Scotland. Four events take place on the community-owned Isle Martin in Loch Broom, where emigrant ships departed in the 19th century.
