Martyn Wade, the National Librarian and Chief Executive of the National Library of Scotland, has been honoured by Robert Gordon University.

In recognition of his contribution to the leadership of library and information services in Scotland, the university's Department of Information Management has appointed him an Honorary Professor.

National Librarian since 2002, he has overseen a number of notable developments at NLS. He played a key role in the purchase of the John Murray Archive — one of the world's most significant literary archives — and the creation of a Visitor Centre to improve access to the Library and its collections.

Professor Peter Reid, Head of the Department of Information Management at Robert Gordon University, said: 'We are delighted to have Martyn as one of the Department's honorary professors. This appointment recognises the enormous contribution which he has made in the leadership of library and information services in Scotland.'
