An account of Edwin Morgan's life has been named Saltire Society / National Library of Scotland Scottish Research Book of the Year.
'Beyond the last dragon' was written by James McGonigal with the Scottish poet's full support, exploring previously unknown resources and creative work. It was published by Sandstone Press shortly after Morgan's death last year.
Other winners announced at the Saltire Society Literary Awards ceremony on 1 December at the National Library of Scotland were:
- Scottish Book of the Year: 'A Life in pictures' by Alistair Gray (published by Canongate)
- Scottish first book of the year:'The echo chamber' by Luke Williams (Hamish Hamilton)
- Scottish history book of the year:'The inner life of empires' by Emma Rothschild (Princeton University Press).
Martyn Wade, National Librarian and Chief Executive, described the awards as 'a wonderful way of celebrating this important aspect of our rich cultural heritage'.
