OneSource business database
NLS offers OneSource of free global business information for Scottish companies
Scottish companies can now get free and instant access to crucial information about customers, suppliers, business partners and competitors to help them grow and prosper.
The National Library of Scotland's business information service, SCOTBIS, has added one of the world's most comprehensive sources of company data and analysis to what it already offers Scottish businesses. It is providing the only free access to this service anywhere in Scotland.
The OneSource Global Business database provides information on more than 17 million companies worldwide, including almost three million in the UK. In addition, there is information on specific industries and company executives, together with news, reports and analysis.
This further enhances the SCOTBIS service, which offers access to one of the largest collections of company and market data in the United Kingdom. It is already a key resource for Scotland's business community and is completely free of charge to anyone resident in Scotland who registers as a reader of the National Library of Scotland (NLS).
The new OneSource database will allow Scottish companies to create their own personal business library at the click of a computer mouse. It will allow them to draw up financial profiles and compile targeted lists for mailshots. It will help in monitoring competitors and identifying potential new customers.
Stuart Milne, sales director of the Language Room, a Linlithgow based company that provides a wide range of translation services, has been impressed with what it has to offer. 'OneSource is an accessible database that has allowed me to source contact details for a number of potential clients. You can search for whatever you want, wherever you want, and upload it all for free. It's a great resource.'
Alison Munn, Research Executive at Scottish Enterprise, also recommends OneSource. 'It is an extremely useful and intuitive database for gathering intelligence on companies based both within and outside the UK.'
John Coll, Head of Access and Enquiries at NLS, said: 'The OneSource database is one of the largest single sources of business information content in the world. It can be used in many different ways, such as researching a specific company, individual or industry or creating a tailored list of companies to target. We hope it will prove popular with Scottish companies and will help them develop and grow.'
Further information on the SCOTBIS service and how to get access is available at Scotbis online.
