For anyone with an interest in the story of Timothy Pont and the early mapping of Scotland, two books make essential reading.
The first is Dr Jeffrey C. Stone's The Pont Manuscript Maps of Scotland: sixteenth century origins of a Blaeu atlas, published in 1989 by Map Collector Publications Ltd. This remains the definitive work on Pont and offers the fullest available description of his maps and their content.
The second is The Nation Survey'd: essays on late sixteenth-century Scotland as depicted by Timothy Pont, edited by Ian C. Cunningham and published in 2001 by Tuckwell Press Ltd in association with the National Library of Scotland.
Additional books and articles of interest to those studying Pont and the early mapping of Scotland are to be found in the bibliography below. The National Library of Scotland would be pleased to hear from anyone who can suggest additions or corrections to this bibliography
