Digital images licence

The application form (PDF) (4 pages; 53 KB) for a licence to use digital images of National Library of Scotland material is available to download. You can print it out, sign it and send it to us at the address given below.

Please note:

1. A 'product' is defined as something which is intended to be consulted by individuals other than the applicant. Use includes production and preparation work for a hard-copy publication (e.g. in a book or journal article) or an electronic production, such as a TV programme, VHS video, or film, or a digital end-product, for example a CD, DVD, or website. Those wanting material purely for private use do not need to acquire a licence and should not complete this form.
   
   
2. The application form relates both to digital images created from an analogue image supplied by the National Library of Scotland of material held by it, and to digital images supplied by the National Library of Scotland of material held by it.
   
   
3. The blank form presented here enables you to record the information that the National Library needs to possess before a licence is permitted, and to allow you to understand from the start the detailed conditions of such a licence. Use of the form will speed up the application process. You might find it useful to view our charges for digital images and our permission fees.
   
   
4. Please send the completed form in hard-copy form (as we need your original signature) to the Library with as much information as possible about your proposed use of the images. We may have to contact you for further details and your supplied form may have to be superseded by another, giving more details agreed by you and the Library.
   
   The licence form gives our general terms and conditions of use. If you have specific requirements, or your intended use does not fit these conditions, please let us know and we will be happy to discuss the matter further.
