Special and Named Printed Collections


A collection of 110 wood engraved blocks and tools from the studio of the Scottish wood engraver Agnes Miller Parker (1895-1980), deposited by her niece Mrs Anne D. Quickenden in 1981. The blocks were used in the following published works: 'Elegy in a country churchyard', 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles', 'Forest giant', 'Animals under the rainbow' and 'Poems of William Shakespeare'. There are also blocks for Christmas card illustrations and miscellaneous prints. The surviving letters, sketch-books and a large quantity of prints were deposited at the same time, and are held by the Archives & Manuscripts Division. A number of the blocks were also printed for the Fleece Press book on Agnes Miller Parker with text by Ian Rogerson and John Dreyfus.
