The winner of an adults' writing competition centred on the story of Hansel and Gretel has been announced today.
Judges selected Caroline von Schmalensee as the overall winner out of 92 entries. 'The Scotsman' newspaper will publish Caroline's story in the next month.
The competition was a collaborative venture by Scottish Ballet and the National Library of Scotland. Run in 'The Scotsman' and online, it attracted a high standard of entries.
Twelve shortlisted finalists will attend a writing masterclass with Scots author Louise Welsh on February 1.
A writing competition for schools ran alongside the adult competition, and the winner will be announced around 14 January.
