Legislation modernising the functions and governance of the National Library of Scotland comes into effect from Friday 1 February.
The National Library of Scotland Act 2012 confirms the Library's general function as a 'national resource for reference, study and bibliography'. It strengthens the role of NLS in safeguarding and sharing the knowledge in its collections for future generations.
Under the terms of the Act, the Library now has fewer Trustees on its Board. All appointments are made by Scottish Ministers based on merit and selection.
