Explore the written works of some remarkable women from our digitised collections in this online workshop.
We will demonstrate how to find and explore written accounts of women through our free-to-use Digital Gallery and Learning Zone. The workshop will last approximately one hour and includes a question-and-answer session at the end.
We will explore the work of a range of remarkable women. Women like:
- Isabella Bird (1831 to 1904), who travelled across the world and recorded and photographed her adventures.
- Henrietta Liston (1751 to 1828), who documented societal changes as she travelled through North America, West India, and Europe.
- Marie Maitland (died 1596), a Sapphic poet writing explicit lesbian poetry at a time when writing was largely reserved for men.
We also hold invaluable archives of other female pioneers such as Mairi Chisholm, Phoebe Anna Traquair, Muriel Spark and Marjory Fleming. We have fully digitized these collections for everyone to consult via our online resources.
