from Maule's book [Acc.12242].
Janet Maule's handwritten recipe book dates back to June 1701, with recipes added over many years in different hands.
Bound in vellum, the book uses Scottish measurements like mutchkins, a measurement for liquids which is about three quarters of an imperial pint.
The book contains many early mentions of now well-known dishes. Recipes include cakes, macaroons, raspberry jam, gooseberry jam and marmalades.
