Thanks particularly to the invaluable work of the Scottish Labour History Society and the Scottish Working People's History Trust, the Library has the leading collection of archival research material relating to Scottish labour and trade union history.
Coverage is from the early 19th to the late 20th century, and east-central Scotland, and Scottish national unions and other labour organisations, are particularly well represented.
Records of trade unions, and of co-operative and educational organisations — in the latter case, for example, papers of the Scottish-based National Council of Labour Colleges and of the Workers Educational Association in Scotland — are reinforced by personal papers of many individuals active in the labour and trade union movements.
