Make an enquiry

Use the copy enquiry form to ask if we can copy an item for you from the collections.

We'll review your order

Before we can prepare your order, we need to make sure it complies with copyright legislation. We also need to check the condition of the item. If it's too fragile, we might not be able to copy it for you.

Once that's sorted, we'll copy in the way that keeps costs down for you. You can put any specific requirements in the 'additional information' box on the form though.

Then you'll be emailed a link to a web page giving details of your order and our charges.

Submit your order

When you are happy with your order, go to 'Checkout', make your payment and submit.

Re-use of material may require specific permission from the Library, in particular if you are requesting copies to be made of material, if you are re-using certain Map collection images or if you are re-using moving image content. See our copyright guide for more information.

VAT will be added based on the country to which the invoice is addressed. VAT is chargeable only within the UK.

Reprographic prices do not include permission fees for re-using material.

Posted orders

We apply these minimum charges to all posted orders:

• UK — £16.80 with VAT; no VAT — £14.00

• EU countries — £18.00 (no VAT)

• Rest of the world — £20.00 (no VAT)

Digital orders

We apply these minimum charges to all digital orders:

• £16.80 with VAT; no VAT — £14.00

All orders are sent by tracked mail.

EU customers should note that for orders received by post, any VAT, import duties and courier admin charges that may apply are your responsibility.

Large letter envelopes (A4 or A3 sized envelope)

• UK — £9.00 with VAT; no VAT - £7.50

• EU countries — £14.30 (no VAT)

• Rest of the world — £21.90 (no VAT)

Tubes (A2, A1 and A0 sized tube)

• UK — £15.60 with VAT; no VAT – £13.00

• EU countries — £19.80 (no VAT)

• Rest of the world — £32.50 (no VAT).

Self-service

• Colour scan to memory stick — £0.20 per scan

• A4 black and white copy — £0.30 per page

• A3 black and white copy — £0.40 per page.

Self-service microform printing

• A4 black and white copy — £0.30 per page

• A3 black and white copy — £0.40 per page.

Add cash credit to your  library card at the top-up kiosk.

Colour preservation

• A4 (210 x 297mm) — £1.80 with VAT; no VAT — £1.50

• A3 (297 x 420mm) — £3.60 with VAT; no VAT — £3.00.

Black and white preservation

• A4 (210 x 297mm) - £1.08 with VAT; no VAT — £0.90

• A3 (297 x 420mm) - £1.20 with VAT; no VAT — £1.00

• A2 (420 x 594mm) - £11.40 with VAT; no VAT — £9.50

• A1 (594 x 841mm) - £12.60 with VAT; no VAT — £10.50

• A0 (841 x 1189mm): flat sheet only - £13.80 with VAT; no VAT — £11.50.

Photocopies from microform

• A4 — £1.50 with VAT; no VAT — £1.25

• A3 — £2.10 with VAT; no VAT — £1.75

• A2 — £7.80 with VAT; no VAT — £6.50

• A1 — £9.60 with VAT; no VAT — £8.00.

We print on to 180gsm matte presentation paper. 

Other paper types like satin, canvas, and gloss are available on request. A surcharge applies for these paper types. Email us to find out more.

Photo-quality digital prints

Prices are for colour or greyscale and include the cost of scanning and printing. Available in matte or gloss finish.

• A4 — £8.40 with VAT; no VAT — £7.00

• A3 — £12.00 with VAT; no VAT — £10.00

• A2 — £16.20 with VAT; no VAT — £13.50

• A1 — £24.60 with VAT; no VAT — £20.50

• A0 — £36.30 with VAT; no VAT — £30.25

We supply images via an electronic download link sent by email. Please make sure you have the appropriate software to access these file formats.

JPEG digital download

JPEG image download specifications:

• JPEG compression: 10

• Colour mode: RGB

• Pixel depth: 8 bits per channel

• Resolution: 400ppi (pixels per inch) minimum

• ICC colour profile: Adobe RGB (1998).

JPEG digital download where no digital image already exists

• £16.80 with VAT; no VAT — £14.00

• £16.80 with VAT; no VAT — £14.00 VAT for the first image of each item, then £4.20 with VAT; no VAT — £3.50 for subsequent images from the same item

JPEG digital download of an existing digital image

• £13.20 with VAT; no VAT — £11.00

• Minimum charge applies: £16.80 with VAT; no VAT – £14.00

TIFF digital download

We supply high resolution images as standard. We can supply other resolutions on demand.

A1 (594 x 841mm) is the maximum size for digitisation from bound volumes. If the original item is bigger than A1, please get in touch through our online enquiry form. 

TIFF digital download where no digital image already exists

• £23.10 with VAT; no VAT — £19.25

• £23.10 with VAT; no VAT — £19.25 for first image of each item, then £5.70 with VAT; no VAT — £4.75 for subsequent images from the same item.

TIFF digital download of an existing digital image

£20.40 with VAT; no VAT — £17.00.

Standard 1:1 size at 400dpi.

Minimum charges of £16.80 with VAT and £14.00 with no VAT apply for orders of up to eight scans.

• PDF colour scan — £2.10 with VAT; no VAT — £1.75.

We will supply these scans as multi-page compressed PDF files, and charge per scan (opening of material). 

The maximum size for digitisation from bound volumes is A2 (420 x 594mm).

Our portable document format (PDF) scans are not publication quality or for multimedia use.

In line with collection care policy, when a complete work is requested for scanning, we have the right to make a preservation copy at the same time, which will result in such orders taking longer to process.

We charge for any image manipulation or digital retouching on a time basis at the rate of £43.20 per hour with VAT; no VAT — £36 per hour.
