The bookbug on a green background

Join us to read, sing, and play with your little ones.

This event occurs every Thursday.

Join us for weekly Bookbug sessions at the National Library of Scotland. Bookbug is a relaxed event that aims to encourage parents and carers to feel more confident sharing stories, rhymes, and songs with little ones.

For more information on the wider Bookbug programme, please visit the Scottish Book Trust website.

In August 2026 these sessions will take place in our Rain exhibition space and be linked to the theme of rain with songs about things like puddles, ponds, rainbows, and oceans.

From 11:15am to 12 noon after each session there will be optional, free, drop in kids crafts in the gallery.

Please note:

  • Spaces are limited and booking is essential.

  • Only book tickets for adults attending.

  • Bookbug sessions are intended for children five and under, but older siblings are welcome.

  • All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the event.

If you need to cancel, please do so via Eventbrite using the ticket booking button.
