Exploring tactile books
A hands-on workshop exploring tactile books through the decades. When were they first made? Who were they for? How have they changed?
Prepare to be charmed by the textures, colours, and design of tactile books brought together from the National Library collection and beyond. From fluffy and smooth to bumpy elements, these books invite us to reach out and touch the pages.
Lily Stone will be our guide through these delightful books. The workshop will allow you to handle and explore a range of tactile books from different eras.
About the speaker
Lily Stone has just completed a PhD (funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council) which focused on tactile picture books for children with vision impairments.
Accessible Book & Story Festival
The Accessible Book and Story Festival is the only one of its kind in the UK. It celebrates some of the amazing ways that books and stories are being made accessible for children with additional needs.
