Heart Lines: A zine and movement workshop with Gemma Cairney
Join polymath, writer, broadcaster and Edinburgh local, Gemma Cairney, in exploring themes from her up-coming book ‘The Immortal Sisterhood’ in this creative session.
This workshop is aimed at unrepresented ethnic minorities that are interested in decolonial creative practice, archiving and honour. Come with your interpretation of Intersectionality, and a list of womxn you'd like to immortalise.
We’ll explore the idea of 'practical reverence', honouring those that we stand on the shoulders of. Whose stories do we admire? Who gets to tell the stories and how can we practically offer thanks and awe? In movement and collaging perhaps?
Suitable for those aged sixteen and over.
About the workshop leader
Gemma Cairney is an award-winning British broadcaster and published author. She has explored the intersections of the activism and creativity that is in her DNA since training in theatre at the start of noughties at a no-fee paying school for the performing arts (BRIT School).
Decades later, her CV is expansive, from honing her craft in live radio for years hosting daily shows at the BBC to using her voice for global campaigns. She has also founded a boutique production company and published books on subjects that explore humanity, arts and culture.
