Explore the deep connection between Scotland and Ireland through their native languages. Join us for the Edinburgh premiere of 'Le Chéile', the world's first narrative short film in both Scots Gaelic (Gàidhlig) and Irish (Gaeilge).

The film follows a Scottish Rangers supporter and an Irish Celtic supporter. They find unexpected common ground on a bus ride home through their shared linguistic heritage.

The screening of 'Le Chéile' will be bookended by a selection of other Gaelic and Irish short films, including the groundbreaking Gaelic/Irish rap 'Meas Mór' celebrating language, culture and friendship. The event will conclude with a Q&A session with the film's writer and director, Róise Nic an Bheatha.

Please note: The event discussion will be primarily in English, with films shown in Gaelic and Irish with English subtitles.

Rannsaich an ceangal làidir eadar Alba agus Èirinn tro na cànanan dùthchasach aca. Thigibh còmhla rinn airson a’ chiad sgrìneadh den fhilm ‘Le Chéile’ ann an Dùn Èideann – a’ chiad fhilm dràma goirid ann an Gàidhlig na h-Alba agus Gàidhlig na h-Èireann san t-saoghal.

Tha am film a’ siubhal còmhla ri neach-leantainn Rangers à Alba agus neach-leantainn Celtic à Èirinn is iad a’ dol dhachaigh air a’ bhus. Tha iad a’ lorg coitcheannas eatorra ris nach robh dùil tron dualchas cànain cho-roinnte aca.

Thèid filmichean goirid Gàidhlig is Gaeilge eile a shealltainn aig toiseach agus aig deireadh an tachartais, a’ gabhail a-steach an rap Gàidhlig/Gaeilge ùr-ghnàthach ‘Meas Mór’, a’ comharrachadh cànan, cultar agus càirdeas. Thig an tachartas gu crìch le seisean C&F le sgrìobhadair is stiùiriche an fhilm, Róise Nic an Bheatha.

Airson fios: Bidh an tachartas agus an deasbad sa Bheurla gu ìre mhòr, agus bidh na filmichean ann an Gàidhlig agus Gaeilge le fo-thiotalan Beurla.

Mun fhilmeadair

’S e sgrìobhadair agus stiùiriche a th’ ann an Róise Nic an Bheatha a tha ag obair ann an Gàidhlig na h-Alba agus Gàidhlig na h-Èireann. Tha a cuid obrach a’ rannsachadh dualchas agus cànan, a’ toirt nam mion-chànanan seo gu luchd-èisteachd nas fharsainge.
