Scotland's storytelling renaissance could not have happened without the generosity of Scotland's Travelling People. Discover tales rooted in this tradition with storytellers Jess Smith and Jimmy Williamson, drawing on rich Traveller family and cultural traditions.

This event is part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival.

About the storytellers

From a Scottish Traveller family, Jess Smith was privileged to sit round campfires and be enthralled within a circle of ancient kings, dragons, witches, tramps and all manner of heroes.

As a teller of tales, the hardships of her ancestors help the listener to come a wee bit closer to understanding the Traveller.

Jimmy Williamson is a storyteller and singer in the relaxed and engaging Scottish Traveller tradition. Eldest son of the celebrated Duncan Williamson, Jimmy continues Traveller culture as a fisherman, basket maker and tradition bearer.
