National Library of Scotland
A shinty match being played in a field.

Friday 7 November – Godfrey Thomson Hall, University of Edinburgh

Shinty is one of Scotland's oldest sports, with origins dating back over 2,000 years. But where does Edinburgh fit into the story? And how has the sport become so connected to Gaelic and Highland life?

Come down to the University of Edinburgh to hear shinty legend Hugh Dan MacLennan share stories and anecdotes from his long career as a sports broadcaster with the BBC.

Pop down to the venue early to grab a refreshment, watch archive shinty footage from the Library's Moving Image Archive and a chance to learn a Gaelic shinty phrase or two!

Location: Godfrey Thomson Hall, Thomson's Land, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh EH8 8AQ.

Saturday 8 November - The Meadows (West)

Join us as shinty clubs Tayforth Camanachd (adult) and Camanachd Dhùn Èideann (under 18s) host a shinty taster session for you to try or support on the touchline.

Location: West side of The Meadows near Lonsdale Terrace.

Then join us after the match for a bit of Gaelic and shinty chat at Seumas's, 15 Brougham Place, Edinburgh, EH3 9JX.

This event is brought to you by the Gaelic Week Edinburgh Committee.
