To tie in with our new display ‘Images of Italy’, we'll explore the groundbreaking work of photographer John Ruskin.
Professor Sandra Kemp will present the extraordinarily detailed work Ruskin took with daguerreotype photography between 1845 and 1858, described at the time as "the most marvelous invention of the century".
Most of Ruskin's work documents the buildings and landscapes he encountered during his travels across Europe. His daguerreotypes of Florence, Pisa, and Venice will feature in our upcoming 'Images of Italy' exhibition, opening on 16 May.
